We love our downtown area here in Cranford. There is so much to see and do. To encourage residents and visitors to stop there, many businesses participate in various “strolls” throughout the year. In October, we had the Scarecrow Stroll. Last month, there was the Souperhero Stroll. This month, we celebrate Black History Month with the Cranford Storywalk.

Cranford Storywalk 2022
The Cranford Library teamed up with the Cranford Unity Project and Downtown Cranford to celebrate Black History Month with a Storywalk. Twenty different downtown Cranford businesses display one of the pages of the children’s book “Overground Railroad” in their windows. This tells the story of a young girl who takes a train ride with her family from the South to New York City to start a new life during the Great Migration. Author Lesa Cline’s story is accompanied by beautiful illustrations created by James Ransome.
Start off with page one displayed at Yumpanadas. From there, you will be directed to the next page in the story. And so on and so on. To help families learn more about the Underground Railroad and Black History Month, Storywalk organizers encourage you to download their discussion guide before you stroll through Downtown Cranford. And, if you feel like stopping inside one or more of these businesses along your walk, that is always welcome, too.
