February 25, 2022 by Scott Gleason

We have definitely experienced a lot of “ice” lately. But, if you want to shake off the winter chill with a little heat, come to the Cranford Fire and Ice event this weekend. It’s free. It’s fun. And it’s something the entire family can enjoy.

Add a little warmth to our chilly winter weather with fire breathers, a hot wings contest, and more at the Cranford Fire and Ice 2022 event in downtown Cranford this weekend.

What: Cranford Fire and Ice 2022
Where: Downtown Cranford
When: Saturday, February 26th, 12 pm to 4 pm (rain date: February 27th)

Then, go get your face painted for free at the Thirsty Turtle. Final Days of Cranford Storywalk

Do not forget. This is the last weekend that the Cranford Storywalk celebrating Black History Month will take place. It ends on Monday, February 28th. So, if you have not yet seen it, make it happen before, during, or after the Fire and Ice event. Trust me. You’re going to love it.

Cranford High Clothing Drive 2022

February 11, 2022 by Scott Gleason

We support our own whenever we can, however we can. For the Cranford High School swim team, that means raising money for themselves and helping out the community at the same time. To that effect, they ask the public to help them by coming to their Cranford High Clothing Drive 2022 next weekend.

Bring your gently used clothing, linens, and accessories to the Cranford High Clothing Drive 2022 on Feb 19th to benefit the swim team as well as our local community.

What: Cranford High Clothing Drive 2022
Where: Cranford Community Center (220 Walnut Ave)
When: Saturday, February 19th from 9 am to 12:30 pm
Contact: Friends of Cranford Swimming (908) 347-0827

Click here for an instant "No Strings Attached" valuation of your home. Please bring your gently used items to the parking lot between the Cranford Community Center and the library on Walnut Ave between 9 am and 12:30 pm on Saturday, February 19th. Members of the CHS swim team will be on hand to collect clothing, shoes, bedding, bath towels, bedding, belts, purses, and stuffed animals. Unfortunately, they cannot accept pillows, toys, books, appliances, furniture, or other household items. Once the collection ends, the team takes these items to sell at consignment shops or distribution to local second-hand shops.

Money raised from this clothing drive helps the swim team fund their away meets and other team expenses for the upcoming year. So, please look through your clothes and linen closets. Pick out the items you no longer need. Then, bring them to the Cranford High Clothing Drive on February 19th.

Cranford Storywalk Celebrates Black History Month

Remember. When shopping downtown, pay attention to the windows of the shops along your way. Until the end of the month, participating shops feature pages of the children’s book “Overground Railroad” in honor of Black History Month for Cranford’s Storywalk. Start at Yumpanadas and work your way to the end of the story at Milan’s Hair & Makeup Studio. It’s a fun way for you and your family to enjoy a stroll downtown while learning about an important part of our nation’s history.

Cranford Thanksgiving Food Drive 2021

November 12, 2021 by Scott Gleason

Last month was all about scarecrows and the Addams Family. This month, we give thanks for the many blessings we received over the last year. Unfortunately, some people may not have been as blessed as you. To help them through this holiday season, please add a few items to your grocery shopping list and bring them to the Cranford Thanksgiving Food Drive 2021.

Help those less fortunate this holiday season by donating much-needed items to the Cranford Thanksgiving Food Drive 2021 on Nov 13th at the Cranford United Methodist Church.

What: Cranford Thanksgiving Food Drive 2021
Where: Cranford United Methodist Church (201 Lincoln Ave E)
When: Saturday, November 13th, 10 am to 1 pm

Cranford Thanksgiving Food Drive 2021

Click here for an instant "No Strings Attached" valuation of your home.Giving to others not only helps them but it makes you feel good, too. Consider donating food to Cranford UMC’s food drive this Saturday, November 13th. Just bag up the items you want to donate. Then, place them in the trunk of your car or bed of your truck. After that, drive to the church parking between 10 am and 1 pm. Volunteers will then take the items out of your vehicle without you ever having to physically interact with them. All donations received go directly to local organizations like St. Joseph’s Social Services and Cranford Family Care.

Can’t make it to the donation site on Saturday? Drop them off in the bins located just outside the church near the Little Free Pantry. The Little Free Pantry located in the church’s parking lot accepts donations 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. People experience food insecurity year-round, not just during the holidays. So, if you can give a little something every so often, it helps.

Items Requested

Shelf-stable non-perishable food items requested for donation include:

  • Apples
  • Applesauce
  • Broth
  • Cookies
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Fried onion packets
  • Garclic
  • Gravy
  • Green beans
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Onions
  • Pie filling
  • Potatoes (bagged)
  • Pudding
  • Salad dressing
  • Seasonings (salt, pepper, spices)
  • Stuffing
  • Sweet potatoes (bagged)
  • Yams

After you drop off your food for the food drive, head over to First Presbyterian on Springfield. Get started on your Christmas shopping or find interesting decor for your Thanksgiving table this year at their craft Fair from 9 am to 4 pm. Thanksgiving arrives in less than two weeks. Then, just 29 days of shopping left until Christmas after that. You don’t want to dally or you may miss out on great gifts to give.

Cranford Craft Fair: Start Christmas Shopping Early

November 4, 2021 by Scott Gleason

Did you take advantage of the wonderful fall scenery of downtown brought to you by the Cranford Scarecrow Stroll? If not, you now have to wait 11 more months to see it again. I highly suggest that you add it to your calendar so as not to forget. Now that Halloween is over, it is time to look forward to the next big end-of-year holidays. In three weeks, we celebrate Thanksgiving. But you might want to focus on Christmas. Even with 49 shopping days to go, kinks in the supply chain mean that you might run into availability issues for gifts on your Christmas list. Fortunately, the Cranford Craft Fair promises plenty of gift ideas so you can begin to start checking off names on your list.

Start checking off names on your Christmas gift list and support our local artists and artisans by shopping early at the Cranford Craft Fair on November 13th, 2021.

You will find everything from handmade jewelry, blankets, and clothing to artwork, kitchenware, and decor.

In addition to arts and crafts, First Presbyterian Church hosts a bake sale. So, pick up some delicious bread, pies, cakes, or other goodies for your friends or guests. And make sure that you keep some to enjoy for yourself.

Organizers request that all guests wear masks while walking around the fair. Social distancing will also be enforced while on the grounds. Please keep your health in mind as well as others around you while visiting. If you feel ill, please stay at home.

End of Daylight Savings Time

Just a reminder. This Sunday, November 7th, Daylight Savings Time ends. That means that we turn our clocks back one hour on Sunday. Get ready for that early evening sunset. Happy holidays!
