Westfield Area Y Clothing Drive 2021

April 2, 2021 by Scott Gleason

I have been involved with the Westfield Area Y Men’s Club for years now. Thanksgiving marks the start of our annual Christmas tree lot. (Thank you for selling us our well ahead of Christmas last year, by the way.) Our local YMCA offers so much to the community. Next week, they need your help to provide assistance to those less fortunate all over the world. They are asking you to donate to their Westfield Area Y Clothing Drive.

Bring any of your slightly used clothing, handbags, shoes, linens, and bedding to the Westfield Area Y Clothing Drive this Wed, April 14th.

What: Westfield Area Y Clothing Drive 2021
Where: Westfield Area Y (422 E Broad St)
When: Wednesday, April 14th, 7:30 am to 2:30 pm
Contact: Eileen Rooney, Westfield YMCA (908) 301-9622 ext 134 or via email

If you plan on channeling your inner Marie Kondo by getting rid of anything that does not spark “feelings of joy” in your Westfield household, consider bringing it all to Westfield YMCA’s clothing drive. It takes place on Wednesday, April 14th.

Drop off your slightly used clothing (for all ages) and accessories (hats, belts, handbags) between 7:30 am and 2:30 pm. They also accept used bedding, curtains, and towels. Plus, if your children outgrew their stuffed animals and toys, feel free to drop those off as well. The toys cannot exceed two feet in size. Unfortunately, they will not be accepting household items like pots, pans, electronics, furniture, appliances, or books at this event. To donate those, contact our local Salvation Army or Goodwill stores. Our local library and even our schools accept book donations, too.

Where Does It All Go?

The American Used Clothing Corp picks up all donations and distributes them to second-hand stores all over the world. Proceeds from the Westfield Area Y Clothing Drive help fund the Westfield Y’s financial assistance program. The Y’s membership fees work on a sliding scale. This allows all members of our society access to everything the Y has to offer our community.

Clear your closets and help others at the same time. Please donate what you can to the Y’s clothing drive. Thank you.

Westfield Food Pantry Drop-Off at YMCA

April 10, 2020 by Scott Gleason

Did you spot any rainbows while out on your daily walk in Westfield lately? It may seem like a little thing, but they certainly raise your spirits when you see them. With unemployment filings in the multi-millions over the last few weeks, we see more and more people struggling just to put food on the table. One way you can help alleviate this strain for those in need is to donate food and other essentials to the Westfield Food Pantry. The Westfield Area YMCA offers a convenient drop-off location for anyone able to help during the pandemic.

The Westfield Area Y continues to offer an easy drop-off location for any food or personal care item donations to the Westfield Food Pantry.

Westfield Food Pantry Drop-Off

Click here for an instant "No Strings Attached" valuation of your home. The Westfield Area Y always accepted donations for the Westfield Food Pantry. They continue to do so even though they temporarily shut their doors to the public. The Y set up donation drop-off bins in their front vestibule. You may drop off your non-perishable food and personal care items any time between 8 am and 5 pm Monday through Friday. Westfield Police pick up all donations from these bins regularly and take them to the food pantry themselves.

What They Need

  • canned goods (soup, beef stew, ravioli, spaghettios, fruit, veggies)
  • dry pasta
  • peanut butter
  • jelly
  • cereal
  • personal care items (shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, travel-sized items)

Helping the Westfield Area Y

As you can imagine, shutting their doors has financially hurt our local YMCA. To help reduce the impact this has caused, the Westfield Area Y set up their YMCA Operations Recovery Fund. If you can, please donate today. This will help them continue to provide service to the community when they are able to open back up after we flatten the curve of the COVID-19 pandemic and get back to something resembling a normal life afterward. We will get there as long as we work together right now.

Westfield Area YMCA 2019 5K Run

Click here for an instant "No Strings Attached" valuation of your home.As a long-time member of the Westfield Area Y Men’s Club, I know first hand what this organization means to our local community. They provide education, services, and athletic programs to men, women, and children regardless of their financial status or physical prowess. Their special needs program allows those with physical limitations to participate in recreational activities, too. But they need your help to ensure that these services continue to be available for them. That’s where the 5K comes in to play.

The day’s events start off with a one-mile fun run for kids ages 8 and under at 9 am. Then, at 9:30, everybody begins the 5K. It’s open to all ages and physical abilities. The start/finish line can be found just outside the Westfield Y location on Clark. Whether you walk, run or roll your way to the finish line, the only thing that matters is that you have fun doing it.

Water stops refresh participants along the entire route. You will encounter flat and slightly hilly areas along the way. Dress appropriately for the weather and your comfort. Awards will be handed out to the top three finishers in each age group as well as overall, top male and female, and top hand cyclists male and female.

Westfield Y 5K Registration

Register today to participate in next month’s 5K. If you sign up by the end of the day on August 30th, you pay just $27 per person. After the 30th, prices go up. You can also register in person at the Y’s Clark St facility on September 14th (8 am to 2 pm) or 15th (8 am to 9 am). Online registration closes on the 13th. Even though the Kids Run is free, you still need to register your child. All kids receive a ribbon.
