Westfield Farmers Market & Quimby St Open for Business This Weekend

June 19, 2020 by Scott Gleason

After months of operating under a stay-at-home order, Governor Murphy has begun to allow New Jersey businesses to open back up. To reduce the potential for a second outbreak of COVID-19, the governor decided to approach reopening in phases. Currently, he allows restaurants to offer outdoor dining as an option. This helps them continue to operate while allowing for social distancing. Also, customers of our Westfield farmers market can now go booth-to-booth to visit vendors.

Westfield Farmers Market and Quimby St Open for business downtown this weekend. The farmers market allows in-person shopping as well as curbside pickup. Quimby St closes to automotive traffic all weekend long.

Westfield Farmers Market

Click here for an instant "No Strings Attached" valuation of your home.As of May 2nd, our Westfield farmers market opened up for curbside service only. Customers placed their orders and paid online. Then, they picked up their purchases at the Westfield Train Station during normal farmers market hours. To keep things as safe as possible, market staff placed purchases in customers’ cars. This allowed for a completely touch-free exchange. Customers got the fresh meat and produce they desired and businesses continued to operate even during a pandemic. Everybody won.

Beginning June 20th, the market opens its “doors” to allow in-person shopping again. Organizers strongly encourage customers to continue to observe social distancing practices (six feet between you and anyone you don’t live with). If you feel unwell at all, please stay home…for your safety as well as others. They require you to wear a face voering while walking around the market. Expect lines as vendors assist customers one at a time. Instead of picking things up and examining them yourself, ask the vendor to handle the products you’re interested in to reduce potential cross-contamination.

Feeling a little apprehensive about diving right back into a crowd? The market still offers curbside service. Go ahead and place your order online and then pick it up during regular farmers market hours.

Quimby St Events

Just last week, I was talking about how the Downtown Westfield Corporation was going to shut down Quimby St to automotive traffic so that restaurants and businesses could spread out onto the street in an effort to provide enough room for social distancing. Well, this is the first weekend that happens. On Saturday morning, expect to see yoga classes and a CrossFit class taking place right out on Quimby St. Just Bead Yourself hosts a bracelet-making class on the street from 1 pm to 3 pm. In the evening, enjoy a live concert performed by the NJ Workshop for the Arts.

Satsang offers a yoga class on Sunday morning from 10 am to 11 am. (Bring your own mat.) And Kika Stretch Studios hosts a stretching class at noon. Each weekend provides a new experience on Quimby. You’ll need to come to Downtown Westfield for yourself to see what that weekend’s adventure entails.

Westfield Farmers Market Opens With Curbside Pickup

May 1, 2020 by Scott Gleason

Millions of New Jersey residents continue to follow Governor Murphy’s Stay at Home order. Currently, only essential businesses remain open, with restrictions. Usually, June marks the start of our local farmer’s market season. However, beginning tomorrow (May 2nd), the Westfield Farmers Market opens with curbside pickup available.

Beginning May 2nd, 2020, the Westfield Farmers Market opens with online purchasing and curbside pickup to allow no contact shopping of fresh fruits, vegetables and more from local farmers to your dinner table.

Westfield Farmers Market

Search Westfield luxury homes for saleEarlier this week, the Greater Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce announced that the Westfield Farmers Market would open up early this year. In keeping with social distancing and the CDC’s guidelines on responsible practices, patrons of the market can now place an order from vendors online. Pay for it when you order. Choose a time for pickup (between 10 am and 12 pm). Then, show up to the Westfield Train Station at your designated time.

When you pick up your order, the market staff places your purchased items in the trunk and you go back home with fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, baked goods, and more for your family’s dinner table. Basically, no contact shopping. It’s just like shopping on Amazon. But, instead of a huge corporation getting your money, you support local farmers and merchants directly.

Westfield Farmers Market Hours

Right now, orders must be placed online by Thursday evening for the following Saturday’s pickup. They plan on continuing the virtual market/curbside pickup schedule every Saturday until the regular market starts up. Organizers ask that you be patient as they work out the kinks that may arise from this new arrangement.

As long as Westfield residents continue to obey the governor’s stay-at-home orders, hopefully, the market starts up with business as usual in June. For the latest local COVID-19 information, please visit the City of Westfield’s Coronavirus Information Center.
