Next Thursday, millions of families across the country sit down to enjoy a sumptuous feast and express thanks for the many blessings they received over the past year. After the turkey and all its trimmings get put away, then it’s time to start planning Christmas. There’s no better place to start than the Westfield Area Y Men’s Club 2017 Christmas Tree Lot.

Beginning the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the Westfield Area Y Men’s Club 2017 Christmas Tree Lot is open for business. The lot stays open seven days a week until December 23rd or until the trees run out, whichever happens first. All money raised from Christmas tree sales gets donated to local Westfield area charities. Ever since the men’s club began selling Christmas trees, we’ve been able to raise more than $2,000,000. Let’s see how much more we can raise.

Volunteers Appreciated

While our Westfield Area Y Men’s Club members volunteer their time at the 2017 Christmas tree lot, we always appreciate any help we can get. For example, this year’s batch of trees is scheduled for delivery tomorrow, November 19th. If you’d like to help us unload them, just show up at the Elm Street lot at 9 am. No sign-up or registration needed.

Can’t make it out for unloading but still want to help out? Email me about assisting with setting up the lot during Thanksgiving week. We need to get the lot organized and ready to go before we open for business next Saturday. So, any aid you can provide is welcome.

Help us help the community. And bring a touch of the holidays into your own Westfield home. Volunteer for unloading or lot set-up anytime this week. Then, visit the Westfield Area Y Men’s Club 2017 Christmas Tree Lot to pick up your family’s tree this year.

Westfield Home Security Tips During the Holidays

December 16, 2016 by Scott Gleason

Package theft is on the rise all over the country during the holidays. Utilize these Westfield home security tips to keep you & your belongings secure.During the holidays, police report a spike in package theft.  With millions of people shopping online for their Christmas gifts, thieves become more aggressive.  Utilize these Westfield home security tips to decrease the likelihood of your packages being stolen this year.

Many Westfield homeowners turn to high tech for their home security needs.  This works as a deterrent for a majority of thieves.  However, it doesn’t stop them all from taking advantage of an easy package grab.  The first one of my Westfield home security tips I’ll give you is to make it difficult.  In other words, make it hard for thieves to hide their crimes.  Keep exterior lights on at night.  Or, install motion sensor lights.  Stash valuables out of sight.  Store ladders, tools and other items in the garage or a locked shed.

Next, ask that your packages require a signature.  Provide a neighbor’s address for the signature when you won’t be home to take delivery yourself.  Send deliveries to your work instead of home address.  The less time a package stays out in the elements, the harder it will be for it to be stolen.

Finally, one of the best Westfield home security tips I can give you is to talk to your neighbors.  Know who should be in your neighborhood.  This helps you identify strangers that may be up to no good.  Let them know when you’ll be out of town so they can keep an eye on your home while you’re away.  Get involved in community activities.  The more you interact with your neighbors, the more secure everyone feels.

Westfield Area Christmas Tree News

As a reminder, it’s not too late to get your Christmas tree.  The Westfield Y Men’s Club Christmas Tree Lot stays open from 5pm to 9pm Monday through Friday and 9am to 6pm on the weekends.  The lot remains open all the way through December 23rd.  When you stop by, look for me and say “hi”.  I volunteer as often as possible.

Don’t know what to do with your tree after Christmas ends?  Contact the Westfield High band and choir.  For just $15, they pick up and dispose of your tree for you.  Tree pick-ups are currently scheduled for January 7th.  However, it could be postponed to January 14th in case of snow.  Appointments must be made with WHS by December 31st.  Proceeds benefit the high schools’ band and choir directly.
